Deputy Director, EOHHS Medicaid Program, State of Rhode Island

John Bonin

John Bonin serves as the Deputy Director for Rhode Island Medicaid where he is responsible for LTSS program development and Medicaid program operations and oversight. He began his service with Rhode Island Medicaid in December 2016 and served as the Chief of Staff for the Medicaid Director and interim Chief of Staff for the Secretary of the Executive Office of Health and Human Services until 2023.  Prior to joining the Medicaid program John served in the United States Army until his retirement in November 2016 following a 23-year career. 

He is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science – International Relations. He also received master’s degrees from the Naval War College and the Army War College.
